Van Goghs out classed by Kiama

Kiama 36

Van Goghs nil

THE Ace trusses/ Southern Cross Garages Vincentia Van Goghs were outclassed by an enthusiastic Kiama side on Saturday.

Kiama were better across the board against an unusual lack luster Van Goghs.

The game kicked off with the Van Goghs pressuring the Kiama line only to have the attack thwarted by an intercept and a length of the field try to the opposition.

The game’s atmosphere changed from that point on and the Van Goghs were unable to reply to Kiama’s intensity and enthusiasm.

Every time the Van Goghs seemed to be coming back the bounce of the ball went against them and Kiama came up with the points.

Fifteen nil at halftime there seemed to be a ray of hope for the Van Gogh boys remembering their come back last week from 19-nil against Tech Tahs.

However, it was not to be and although players like Ben and Andrew Williams fired up in the forwards the Van Goghs could not get a break with unusual dropped ball and poor options by the talented backs.

Man of the match Scott Ball did not stop all day and was exhausted at the end of a disappointing game by the Van Goghs.

Kiama ran in six unanswered tries to have the score read 36-0 at full time.

All in all it was a goods display of running rugby by Kiama and just one of those days when nothing went right for the Van Goghs.

Tevita Waqasokolala tried hard as did Luke Woods in the forwards and Corey Short had another good game in the backs.

It was great to see big Johnny Walker back on the paddock.

John was sidelined with a broken leg six weeks ago.

His return will bolster the Van Gogh pack for the remaining games this season.

On a brighter note for the Van Goghs, the annual winter rugby ball held at the Huskisson RSL was a huge success and all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

The loss to the All Blacks and Kiama did not seem to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm at the ball as a few cold drinks seemed to make the losses wane into insignificance as the night progressed.

The Van Goghs are away to University next week then home to Shamrocks the following week.

12:50 PM AEST | When I heard that some obscure woman from Alaska had been selected as the Republican Party's vice-presidential nominee, my first reaction was not to check the cable news channels, or even the internet news sites. No, my first reaction was to go to YouTube.
