Study shows many local businesses recruiting

THE results of a survey into Shoalhaven employers’ recruitment experiences have revealed 70 per cent of businesses in the region had recruited staff in the past 12 months.

The survey was undertaken by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) earlier this year.

Information was gathered from 324 businesses in the Shoalhaven and 86 per cent of those that had undertaken recruitment were replacing staff, while about half were responding to employment growth within their business.

Of the vacancies that employers had attempted to fill, one in 10 remained unfilled.

Overall 34 per cent of employers said they experienced difficulty recruiting over the 12-month period, with 46 per cent expecting the same problems in the future.

Almost three quarters of the businesses had staff leave, with job mobility the main reason.

DEEWR will be conducting workshops in August for Shoalhaven employers experiencing difficulties in recruiting or retaining staff.

12:50 PM AEST | When I heard that some obscure woman from Alaska had been selected as the Republican Party's vice-presidential nominee, my first reaction was not to check the cable news channels, or even the internet news sites. No, my first reaction was to go to YouTube.
