Mental health answers sought

6/08/2008 9:31:00 AM
THE lack of a dedicated mental health unit in Shoalhaven will be raised in the NSW Parliament by Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock.

Mrs Hancock said correspondence from Paul Lynch, the Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Mental Health), suggested mental health inpatient services for the Shoalhaven Cluster of Area Health Services were “being explored”.

“These are extraordinary claims considering that a dedicated mental health wing at Shoalhaven Hospital is part of the NSW Government’s strategic health plan to be delivered by 2009,” she said.

Mrs Hancock said she would seek clarification on when key recommendations in the Clinical Services Strategic Plan would be delivered.

“The Iemma Government needs to cease exploring and start delivering,” she said.
