Greens vow to pursue Mayor on donations

19/05/2008 9:02:00 AM
NSW Greens MLC Lee Rhiannon has vowed to continue scrutinising the activities of Shoalhaven Mayor Greg Watson.

Last week Ms Rhiannon told the NSW Legislative Council that Cr Watson and the Shoalhaven Independents Group received thousands of dollars in donations from developers with interests in the region.

On Friday Ms Rhiannon said the Greens did not know whether there was a connection between the donations received by Cr Watson and local planning decisions, but he needed to explain a lot to the community.

“The Greens will continue to conduct research into recent events at Shoalhaven City Council involving developers, donations and the Mayor Greg Watson.

“When NSW Parliament resumes in early June I will be making further presentations to the Upper House about the machinations at Shoalhaven City Council.

“Shoalhaven Mayor Greg Watson should be acting to give residents the full story on the relationship between donations changing hands and the developments occurring in his region.”

A spokesperson for Cr Watson said he would not comment until he had familiarised himself with the comments Ms Rhiannon made in Parliament on Friday.
